Abstract

Using high-resolution spectroscopy, the molecular bands in the spectrum of exoplanet atmosphere are resolved into individual absorption/emission lines. The variation of Doppler shifts caused by its orbital motion enables absorption/emission lines in the exoplanet spectrum to be distinguished from telluric lines and ensures the unambiguous detection of specific molecules (H2O, CO, TiO, Na I, K I, Fe I, Fe II). This technique has become one of the most robust approaches in the attempt to characterise the exoplanet atmosphere. Using this, we detected the first unambiguous signature of TiO emission in the dayside of WASP-33b. Since then, we have extended our research to colder hot Jupiters to find out if TiO is common in the atmosphere of extremely hot Jupiters or if there are other possible thermal inversion agents. Here, we share our latest findings. I will present our recent results in detecting Fe I in the atmosphere of several hot Jupiters which suggest that it is common in the atmosphere of hot Jupiters and could be the main caused for temperature inversion (stratosphere) in this planet regime. Then, I will also present the current state of the art techniques in characterising exoplanet which can potentially be applied to a 4 m class telescope, e.g. Timau National Observatory, or smaller.

Abstract

Ï„ Ceti, a G8-V class star, has similar physical properties with our sun, even though most values are smaller and not as active as the sun. It has also been widely reviewed that this metal-poor population II star has terrestrial planetary systems, some of which are in the Habitable Zone. This paper aims to build the interior structure of Ï„ Ceti through modeling experiments with Modules for Experiments in Stellar Astrophysics (MESA) program. The work began with the determination of several fundamental parameters obtained from previous observations of both interferometry and spectroscopy on several references, and also from basic calculations which are then used as input to build the model in MESA. Structural modeling has been carried out in accordance with current star conditions, which is in the main sequence phase. Finally, the result various physical parameters so-called stellar interior structure such as mass, luminosity, pressure, temperature, radius, and age, as well as zonal division of nuclear core (R < 0.2
